The current Catechism, published in 1992, was initiated by Pope St. So why study it? The answer is simple: To seek to know and love God by better understanding and living our Catholic faith. The Catechism is based on the Sacred Scriptures, the writings of the Fathers of the Church, the liturgy, and the Church’s Magisterium (which is the Church’s divinely given authority to teach the truths of religion). ![]() It is arranged around four topics: Our Creed, the liturgy and sacraments, morality, and prayer.
